Badin’s first sports stadium closer to reality
In a promising kick-off to the new year, Badin High School is rapidly approaching the finish line of its ambitious fundraising campaign aimed at bringing to life its long-cherished dream of constructing an on-campus athletic stadium.
Reports from Badin officials indicate a significant milestone, with $11 million already secured out of the targeted $15 million goal. This financial triumph is a testament to the generosity of alumni and other supporters rallying behind Butler County's sole Catholic high school, situated in western Hamilton.
Brian Pendergest, the school's president, expressed excitement over the transformative impact of these donations on the school's landscape. This week marks the opening of a brand-new parking lot, marking the completion of phase one in the comprehensive two-phase athletic complex project.
Pendergest emphasized the significance of this project stating an on-campus athletic facility is something that the school always needed and now it’s going to be a reality
The absence of such a facility had compelled Badin High School, since its establishment in 1966, to navigate makeshift arrangements with neighboring school districts for outdoor sports events. However, a pivotal moment arrived in 2022 when Badin officials successfully secured approval from the city of Hamilton to acquire and re-zone land for a 343-space parking lot.
With this crucial step accomplished, anticipation now turns to the imminent groundbreaking for the 2,400-seat stadium, sports field, track, and athletic complex, along with an adjacent practice field. Pendergest revealed the aspiration to inaugurate the stadium in the spring of 2025, hosting the school's first-ever track meets and other sporting events in the spring semester.
The significance of this development becomes more apparent in the context of southwest Ohio, where Badin High School joins the ranks of Moeller High School and Purcell Marian High School as the only Cincinnati Archdiocese high schools without an on-campus sports stadium.
Badin, boasting an enrollment of over 700 students from Butler County and surrounding communities, has been met with gratitude from school officials. Pendergest acknowledged a lot of financial credit goes to "our alumni and community members who believe in Badin and the mission of our school." The collective enthusiasm extends beyond the campus, promising to unite current students, alumni, and community supporters in a shared celebration of Badin's athletic future.
