Eaton Avenue between Webster Avenue and Rhea Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, April 1, 2024 at 9am until Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 5pm.
This closure is necessary to repair underground utilities in advance of the Eaton Avenue resurfacing project. It will occur block by block between Webster and Rhea Avenues during the three week period. The closure will coincide with Hamilton City School District's spring break to lessen the impact.
While we understand the significant negative impact of this closure, this work will get Hamilton one step closer to an improved Eaton Avenue.

Babies are born without kneecaps.
Turns out, babies are as soft and delicate as they look. Babies may have more bones than the average fully-grown human, but they definitely wonโt be doing any stunts anytime soon. Babies are born with a cartilaginous structure in their knees that will eventually develop into kneecaps by the time they are four years old.
Mustache shields were a thing in the Victorian Era.
Youโve heard of post-mortem photo opps and cocaine toothache drops, but another peculiar Victorian Era thing is the mustache shield. Patented in 1876 by Virgil A Gates, the mustache shield was designed to keep facial hair out of the way when eating and drinking.
A second is called a second for a reason.
The first division of an hour is by minutes. If you divide minutes, the next measurement is by seconds. The term โsecondsโ derives its name from being the second way to split an hour.

Martini homers twice, Montas pitches 6 shutout innings and Reds beat Nationals 8-2 in opener
In a spectacular opening day showdown, the Cincinnati Reds dominated the Washington Nationals with an 8-2 victory, fueled by the impressive performance of Nick Martini and Frankie Montas.
Martini, at 33 years old, delivered a memorable performance, smashing two home runs to the delight of the roaring crowd. Batting eighth as the designated hitter, Martini seized his first opening-day start in the big leagues with gusto. His first homer came in the second inning, a powerful shot that sailed 405 feet into the right-field stands. Not content with just one, Martini struck again in the third inning with a three-run blast, showcasing his prowess at the plate. His electrifying display marked him as the first Reds player since Adam Dunn in 2007 to hit two homers on opening day, leaving the fans in awe.
Reflecting on his stellar performance, Martini expressed his joy at delivering for his team and the city of Cincinnati. His contributions were pivotal in setting the tone for the Reds' triumphant start to the season.
Meanwhile, Montas, in his Cincinnati debut, demonstrated his pitching prowess by tossing six shutout innings. The 31-year-old right-hander, who joined the Reds on a lucrative free-agent deal, showcased his resilience and skill on the mound. Despite enduring labrum surgery last February, Montas displayed unwavering control, limiting the Nationals to just four hits while striking out four batters. His stellar outing was a testament to his determination and his ability to perform under pressure.
Manager David Bell praised Martini's exceptional hitting display and acknowledged his long-standing talent. Martini's performance on opening day highlighted his capabilities as a valuable asset to the Reds' lineup.
Contributing to the Reds' offensive onslaught, Spencer Steer delivered with two hits and two RBIs, further solidifying Cincinnati's dominance on the field.
On the opposing side, Josiah Gray struggled on the mound, yielding seven runs to the relentless Reds offense. Despite mustering six strikeouts, Gray failed to contain the Reds' potent lineup, resulting in a challenging outing for the Nationals.
Eddie Rosario provided a glimmer of hope for the Nationals, launching a two-run homer in the seventh inning. However, it wasn't enough to stage a comeback against the formidable Reds.
As the dust settled on opening day, Nationals manager Dave Martinez acknowledged the team's need to bounce back stronger. Opening day jitters may have played a role, but Martinez emphasized the importance of regrouping and refocusing for the battles ahead in the season.
In a thrilling opener filled with standout performances, the Cincinnati Reds emerged victorious, laying down a marker for their aspirations in the season ahead.

Womenโs History Month
Womenโs History Month started as a local week
Womenโs History Month began as a local week-long celebration in Santa Rosa, California in 1978, according to the online National Womenโs History Museum. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women planned the week and timed it with International Womenโs Day.
Local advocates then formed the National Womenโs History Project, now the National Womenโs History Alliance, to share womenโs achievements. One of the groupโs members, Molly Murphy MacGregor, participated in The Womenโs History Institute at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where others were inspired to start their own week celebrations, according to the groupโs website. By 1986, 14 states had already declared March as Womenโs History Month.

Eagle Scout Candidate Zach Kramer Searches For Revolutionary Soldier Remains At Symmes Park
In the heart of Hamilton, Ohio, a stirring tale of youthful dedication unfolds as Zackary Kramer, a 17-year-old junior at Badin High School, takes the reins of history with a profound sense of duty and reverence. Motivated by a sense of injustice surrounding the unmarked resting place of Revolutionary War veteran Paul Bonnel and his wife Mary in what is now Symmes Park, Kramer sets out on a mission to rectify this historical oversight.
Partnering with The Underground Detective, a Cincinnati-based company renowned for its expertise in uncovering hidden truths, Kramer embarks on a quest to locate the long-forgotten graves of these honorable figures. Driven by a deep-rooted passion for history, Kramer expresses, "We're searching for their exact position so we can honor them more justly."
Hamilton, steeped in the annals of American history with the establishment of Fort Hamilton in 1791, bears witness to Kramer's unwavering commitment to preserving its heritage. The grounds of Symmes Park, once the hallowed Hamilton Burying Grounds, hold within their midst the echoes of bygone eras. Though the majority of souls were relocated to Greenwood Cemetery in 1848, the Bonnels remained undisturbed, prompting Kramer's resolute endeavor.
As the Hollow Earth Festival approaches on April 13, Kramer's dedication shines brightly, illuminating the path to remembrance. Contemplating the possibility of discovering the Bonnels' final resting place, Kramer remains steadfast in his resolve. "If we can undoubtedly find them, we'll place a marker there," he declares, envisioning a tribute befitting their valor and sacrifice.
Yet, even amidst uncertainty, Kramer's commitment remains unwavering. With profound respect for the sanctity of the deceased, he asserts, "We will not exhume the Bonnels' remains or any others we may locate." Instead, a ceremony of reverence will ensue, paying homage to their memory and the legacy they left behind.
Chris Maraschiello, a teacher at the Hamilton Freshman High School, recognizes the significance of this endeavor. "It's just really great to have kids interested in history," he acknowledges, emphasizing the importance of nurturing such passion for posterity.
In the crucible of Hamilton's history, Zackary Kramer emerges as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to remembrance and honoring the valor of those who came before. With each step forward, he breathes life into the past, ensuring that the legacy of the Bonnels and all who rest in Symmes Park endures for generations to come.
