City of Fairfield Considering Spending $1.5 Million To Have Better Tasting Water Than Hamilton

For years, Hamilton has proudly held the crown for the best-tasting water around. Consistently dominating the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition, Hamilton's municipal water has clinched titles like Best in the United States and even Best in the World multiple times. But hold onto your water bottles, folks, because Fairfield is stepping up to the plate, and they're not playing around.

While Hamilton has been basking in its water glory, Fairfield has been quietly scheming a takeover. Under the strategic leadership of Fairfield Public Utility Director Adam Sackenheim, they've initiated a game-changing pilot test to revolutionize their water treatment process. With the Ohio EPA's stamp of approval, Fairfield dared to challenge the status quo, swapping out traditional chlorine gas for liquid sodium hypochlorite. And guess what? The results speak for themselves.

During the trial period, Fairfield's water not only met but exceeded expectations. No more complaints about funky odors or questionable appearances – just pure, refreshing taste that rivals even the best Hamilton has to offer. Sackenheim isn't stopping there, though. With plans underway for a $1.5 million conversion, Fairfield is gearing up to take its newfound water superiority to the global stage. That's right – they're eyeing the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition, and they're hungry for victory.

Sure, both Fairfield and Hamilton draw from the same underground reservoir, the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer, but it's the treatment process that sets them apart. While Hamilton swears by chlorine dioxide gas, Fairfield is embracing innovation with liquid sodium hypochlorite.

So, Hamilton, we may have a choice when we venture into Fairfield for work or play. It is said that imitation is the best form of flattery, so if Fairfield can step up, we may have a pleasant tasting source for water away from home.

Numerous Hamilton Graduates Anticipated to Embrace Free Tuition Opportunity at Miami Hamilton

Wonderful news is on the horizon for students at Hamilton High School, Butler Tech, and Stephen T. Badin Catholic High School as they embark on their journey towards higher education. Thanks to the Miami Regionals Hamilton Promise, a heartwarming collaboration between the Hamilton Community Foundation, Miami University Regionals, and the City of Hamilton, eligible students will have the incredible opportunity to pursue their dreams with free tuition for 2-year or 4-year degrees at Miami Hamilton.

This initiative aims to support Pell-Grant eligible students who have attended one of these esteemed schools in Hamilton for four years, while also being a resident of Hamilton throughout their high school journey. With a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher, along with the completion of the FAFSA by April 1, 2024, these students can step into their future without the burden of tuition fees at Miami Hamilton.

Jacob Stone-Welch, the compassionate director of donor services for Hamilton Community Foundation, joyfully announces the commencement of this promise starting this fall, allowing graduating high school seniors to apply for the scholarship for the fall semester of 2024.

Understanding the financial considerations of higher education, it's heartening to know that Pell-Grant eligible students will receive support based on various factors such as their Expected Family Contribution, cost of attendance, and student status. While precise figures are yet to be determined, it's estimated that approximately 50-100 students will benefit from this program annually.

Thanks to the generous contribution of $663,000 over five years from the Hamilton Community Foundation, this initiative is set to make a meaningful impact on the lives of countless students in the community.

Trevor House, an admission counselor for Miami Regionals Office of Admissions, shares his enthusiasm for the opportunities this program presents to students. He expresses his excitement for the students of Hamilton High School and Badin High School, recognizing the potential for them to pursue higher education without the financial strain, provided they meet the necessary criteria.

This promise not only paves the way for students to achieve their academic aspirations but also fosters personal growth and development. As Jacob Stone-Welch aptly puts it, "Educational attainment is a leading factor in the success of any individual, but whenever you translate that across many individuals, it also impacts our whole community." We are truly honored to be a part of this transformative program that empowers students and strengthens our community as a whole.
