State funds called โ€˜criticalโ€™ for Boys & Girls Clubs of Hamilton renovation project

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton were built by local donors in the 1960s and โ€˜70s. Thousands of kids have traveled through the two facilities, which still have wooden backboards and hand cranks to lower and raise them. Our children deserve an upgrade.

February PROTOCOL Minutes

Your Lindenwald Community Council PROTOCOL (People Reaching Out To Others: Celebrate Our Lindenwald) met on Monday evening, February 19, 6:30pm, The Nature Center, 101 Joe Nuxhall Way.

After introductions, Officer Corey Nunn addressed car thefts, particularly KIA and demonstrated a Kia Lock device that is available from HPD if you own a qualifying vehicle.

Complaints regarding unrestrained dogs should be referred to the animal warden. For a chronic problem, leave a message for Officer Nunn at (513) 868-5811 ext. 1175. He will work with residents to develop a weekly safety post.

A Citizens Police Academy begins 2-29-2024.

Attendees mentioned that an increased police presence on Zimmerman Ave. has helped with speeding issues there.

There will be no PROTOCOL sponsored Easter event in 2024. The Markets at Pleasant Treasures are hosting one on March 23, 11:00 am. Visit their FaceBook Page for details.

Kathy Klink and Peggy Bange spoke on upcoming events for 17 Strong and the Department of Neighborhoods. Of note: micro-grant applications are being received until March 9. Also 4 nano-grants ($500.00 each) will be awarded to the 5th grade students at Linden Elementary who in conjunction with their teachers will submit projects, events etc. this school year and fulfill them in their 6th grade year.  It is an honor for Linden Elementary to have been chosen.  For all other events involving 17 Strong visit their website.

The former Shuler Benninghofen Woolen Mill has been awarded Historic Preservation status which now makes it easier for developers to receive state grants and historic tax credits. Application for those credits will be filed in July 2024.

A hospitality group is interested in opening a restaurant in the former Roemer Building. They are awaiting architectural drawings for the interior so they can do a cost analysis.

A judgement on the future of the property at 640 Williams Ave may be forthcoming March 1.

Darana Hybrid anticipates a $15-$20 million dollar expansion that will add 55 jobs as well as possibly reworking the Belle Ave. to Route 4 intersection..

The Lindenwald Litter Patrol will resume monthly business corridor clean ups along Pleasant Ave. as well as seek funding (17 Strong grant) for additional planters and plant material for the same as well as the existing planters.and signs.

We will meet soon to see if a "PORCHFEST" event is feasible this summer/fall.

Lindenwald resident, Joe Enderle, has started a daily, online newspaper to which you can subscribe free of charge by visiting hamiltonthrive.com/subscribe.

Breakout groups shared ideas for "kicking PROTOCOL up a notch" in 2024.

Many thanks to The Parks Conservancy for permitting PROTOCOL to continue using The Nature Center for our meetings.

Respectfully Submitted,
