🩺🩺To Your Health🩺🩺
I am both thrilled and concerned about the ongoing developments at RiversEdge amphitheater. The recent approval from the city planning commission to move forward with the new roof construction marks a significant step in enhancing one of Hamilton’s treasured venues.
The current canopy roof, which has been in place for nearly a decade, shows signs of wear and tear, including rips and general degradation. Considering that the RiversEdge amphitheater, located in Marcum Park, has been operational for over ten years, it’s clear that an upgrade was both necessary and inevitable.
Adam Helms, Hamilton’s director of resident services, has rightly pointed out that the time for a replacement is now. With the city’s commitment to improving the facility, we’ve opted for a more expansive roof design to address critical issues like rain coverage. This new roof will not only protect attendees but also accommodate larger touring productions that require substantial overhead rigging, such as high-profile musicals or major concerts. The existing structure, regrettably, limits our ability to attract such high-caliber events.
RiversEdge’s designation as one of the Great Places in America by the American Planning Association highlights its significance. However, to maintain its standing and enhance its functionality, a larger roof is essential. The proposed structure will be approximately 45 feet tall with a stage clearance of 40 feet—meeting the minimum industry standard for touring shows. This expansion to about 7,500 square feet, nearly three times the current canopy’s size, will significantly improve the venue’s versatility and appeal.
The financial backing for this project, including a $1.7 million loan approved by City Council and an additional $1 million from the state’s capital budget, underscores the city’s commitment to revitalizing RiversEdge. The economic impact of the venue is already substantial, with over 30,000 attendees in 2023 alone and an estimated $6.25 million total impact since 2017. This investment not only supports the venue’s infrastructure but also boosts Hamilton’s broader economic landscape.
Construction is slated to begin in October, with a projected completion around May. However, we must remain adaptable to potential delays due to material availability and weather conditions. The new roof will ideally reduce the venue’s reliance on costly rain insurance and enhance overall attendee experience. Currently, the venue’s open-sided stage makes even minor weather disturbances problematic, halting shows and affecting operations.
Looking ahead, there are discussions about additional improvements, including a potential Phase 2 that could introduce new amenities such as concessions, a box office, and restrooms. While the initial plan for a permanent decorative fence is under reconsideration, alternative solutions are being explored to enhance security and functionality without compromising aesthetics.
As a community advocate, I am optimistic about the positive changes this new roof will bring, yet cautious about the challenges that lie ahead. The goal is to ensure that RiversEdge remains a vibrant, adaptable, and beloved space for all who visit. We will continue to evaluate and refine our plans to achieve the best possible outcome for Hamilton’s premier amphitheater.

Incorporate balance exercises into your routine
Balance on one leg for 10 seconds at a time, then switch to the other leg. Travers suggests incorporating this balance exercise into your routine, but it can also be done while brushing your teeth or standing in a line. It’s a part of neuromotor training, which helps you improve your balance, agility and mobility — all things you need in everyday movement and other forms of exercise.
