June 18th - Heat Wave Is Here For Several Days - Please Be Careful ๐
Congrats, you just joined the best newsletter in Hamilton! |
Welcome to the Hamilton Thrive Newsletter! We bring you the juiciest local news and events every weekday at 6 AM. Unlike my days delivering the Northwest Press ๐๏ธ on my bicycle, it will arrive quietly in your inbox, not in the bushes by the front door! ๐คฃ |
You might be wondering, "What makes Hamilton Thrive different from all the other newsletters out there?" Great question. |
For starters, we have a strict no-boring policy. Even if we're writing about โexcitingโ topics like budgets and road closures. We keep it interesting like watching PeeWee baseball! |
So when can you expect to start getting these enthralling emails? 6 AM of whatever is the closest weekday. In the meantime, we'd like to get to know whatโs going on in your world. We have a Community Billboard where we will post your events, yard sales, reunions, birthdays, etc. Send an email with your happenings to [email protected] |
I'm looking forward to sharing all the Hamilton happenings with you. If you just can't wait to read the Thrive, you can read any of our back issues here. |
I have made some changes to the format to address the suggestions that were made. My number one goal is your satisfaction. Remember - majority rules. Make your voice heard at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Joe Enderle, Editor In Chief - Hamilton Thrive

I love getting messages from my readers ! Got this message about the Hamilton Joe Baseball Game on Thursday Night :
โHamilton Joe's was a 3 night thriller! I know no one on the team. & nobody else there either. There was nothing good on TV, the weather was made for nice evenings. The refreshments were great. Tonight Gapper from the Reds showed up. We all had fun & the price was right. Check it out!โ
Thank you Darla

Millville Avenue Construction Project: Summer 2024 - Summer 2025
The Millville Avenue and Donna Avenue Concrete Repair and Utility Improvements Project is anticipated to begin Monday, June 17, 2024 and estimated to last through the summer of 2025.
From The City Of Hamilton:
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving our community's infrastructure and maintaining our streets, we are excited to announce the Millville Avenue and Donna Avenue Concrete Repair and Utility Improvements Project. Starting in mid-June 2024, significant enhancements will be made to Millville Avenue. Hereโs what to expect:
Tree Removal: To facilitate the installation of concrete sidewalks and curbs, some trees have been removed. The Cityโs Municipal Arborist coordinated with property owners to select replacement trees.
Water Main Replacement: We will install approximately 4,540 feet of 12-inch and 1,675 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe, replace 52 water services with copper pipe, and install 12 new fire hydrants. Water Main Replacement Limits include:
Millville Avenue: Rockford Drive to Wasserman Road/Smalley Boulevard
Millville Avenue: Wrenwood Drive to Washington Boulevard
Donna Avenue: Millville Avenue to Elizabeth Drive
Lead Water Services Notice: Homes and businesses developed from the 1930s to the 1960s may have lead water services. We have notified property owners with potential lead pipes and provided information on reducing exposure to lead.
Water Interruptions: Customers may occasionally experience water service interruptions during the connection of the new water main and water service pipes. These interruptions may last 4 to 8 hours for main connections and 30 minutes to 1 hour for service pipe reconnections. Water flowing into the street during testing is a normal part of the process.
Temporary Trench Restoration: The new water main will be installed in a narrow trench in the street, covered by steel plates until permanent restoration.
Asphalt Trench Restoration: After installing the water main and services, trenches will receive a temporary asphalt finish, which may be slightly uneven. If weather prevents asphalt restoration, a temporary "wearing course" will be applied.
Concrete Curb, Sidewalks, and Driveway Aprons: Starting in Summer 2024 and continuing through Winter 2024, concrete curb, sidewalks and driveway aprons and storm sewer catch basins will be replaced as needed on Millville Avenue and Donna Avenue.
Gas and Water Service Relocations: Additional gas and water service replacements will start in early 2025. This consists of replacing 20 gas and 36 water services from homes to gas and water mains located in the street. Contractors may need to enter private property for connections.
Street Resurfacing: Final street resurfacing will occur in Summer 2025 after utility and concrete work is complete. Milling and resurfacing limits include:
Millville Avenue: West City Corporation Line to Railroad Crossing
Donna Avenue: Millville Avenue to Elizabeth Drive
Miscellaneous: Various work will be completed throughout the duration of the project:
Yard Restoration: If your yard is disturbed due to utility and concrete work, Hamilton Utilities will conduct one grass restoration visit between April 1 and October 31. This involves debris and large rock removal, topsoil infill slightly above grade to allow for settling, and applying grass seed and straw. Property owners are responsible for watering the newly planted grass, following the care instructions provided by Hamilton Utilities. To reduce the risk of unsuccessful grass growth during hot and dry summer months, Hamilton Utilities may delay restoration. Grass seed takes 15-25 days to germinate. Adequate watering after seeding is crucial for successful grass establishment.
Street Closures and Lane Restrictions: Expect street closures and lane restrictions; traffic control devices and detours will be posted. We will provide timely updates on any closures. For the latest information on street closures and lane restrictions, visit https://bit.ly/3t8aCA5.
Driveway Access: There will be times when property owners are temporarily unable to access their driveways. When possible, the contractor will halt work and place a steel plate to allow the property owners in and out of their driveway.
We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience. Please be kind to our contractors. Orange cones, flashing lights, and warning signs all indicate a work zone on the road ahead. This project is a key part of our efforts to enhance the quality and safety of our infrastructure, ensuring long-term benefits for all residents.
Lindenwald Baseball along with FYBA and Ross MRAA will be having our annual All Star Baseball games on June 29th at Joyce Park! It is a great day for all the kids that are chosen to join to have a fun filled day with a great game of Baseball with the teams joining together for a fun game and this year we will be having a Home Run Derby!
Every year we look for a sponsor or donations to help out with this event, if you would like to help out please contact our Secretary Denise Thomas at [email protected]
"Plans for Bloomfield/Schon to redevelop the former Shuler Benninghofen Textile Mill are moving forward at this time.
They will be applying for tax credits this fall and City of Hamilton officials met with them on Monday to kick off the Shuler Benninghofen economic impact study which we are working on with UC for the TMUD (Transformational Mixed Use Development) application that opens in July.
The biggest piece we are waiting to hear back on is the SCIF (Strategic Community Investment Fund) dollars from the Ohio Senate. It would be most helpful for everyone receiving this to send a message to Senator George Lang asking him to support SCIF dollars for the Shuler Benninghofen project. https://ohiosenate.gov/members/george-f-lang/contact"
It may be too late to get additional dollars from the Senate, the plan to finalize has already taken place, but won't hurt to send,
Thanks In Advance

Butler County RTA, Hamilton Chamber To Partner On Free Bus Shuttle
Butler County Regional Transit Authority is celebrating itโs 30th anniversary by providing limited free bus service on weekends starting this weekend.
As local business owners here in Hamilton, we're thrilled to announce an exciting initiative that we believe will bring more foot traffic and excitement to our vibrant community this summer. The Butler County RTA, together with the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, is launching a free pilot program called the Summer of Celebration shuttle. This service, running from June 21 to Aug. 24, is designed to connect residents and visitors with our downtown and urban core, making it easier to explore all the fantastic shops, restaurants, and attractions along High and Main streets.
Matt Dutkevicz from BCRTA highlighted that this partnership aims to support our local business community and make it more convenient for everyone to patronize our establishments. The shuttle will operate on Fridays from 5 p.m. to midnight and Saturdays from noon to midnight, ensuring that people can enjoy extended hours to shop, dine, and experience Hamilton's charm.
Dan Bates from the Hamilton Chamber Of Commerce emphasized the added benefits for riders, including special offers from participating businesses during the kickoff weekend and chances to win prizes through a punch card system. This initiative isn't just about free transportation; it's about enhancing the overall experience of visiting downtown Hamilton.
For businesses like ours, such as Tano Bistro and Sara's House, this shuttle represents a significant opportunity. Tyler McCleary from Tano Bistro expressed excitement about bringing more people into downtown, while Sara Vallandingham of Sara's House looks forward to welcoming new customers and showcasing what our local shops have to offer.
This pilot program isn't just a one-time deal; it's a stepping stone towards advocating for more public transportation options in our city. We're grateful to BCRTA for leading this initiative and investing in Hamilton's economic growth.
To learn more about the routes and stops of the Summer of Celebration shuttle, visit www.butlercountyrta.com or check out BCRTA's social media channels. Join us in making Hamilton a destination for everyone this summer!
