At the City of Hamilton, we're all ears when it comes to your street concerns. In the article below, you'll learn that we've got a very busy summer ahead filled with paving projects to keep our roads smooth and safe.
City of Hamilton
May 28, 2024
As we head into the summer of 2024, the City of Hamilton is all set for a busy season of street paving and infrastructure upgrades. This year, weโre focusing on the west side of town, with plans to shift to the east side next year. These projects are part of our ongoing efforts to improve and maintain our cityโs transportation network, making our roads safer and more efficient for everyone. Plus, weโre putting the Street Levy funds to good use!
### Major Construction on Millville Avenue
One of our big projects this year is the extensive work on Millville Avenue, starting June 17, 2024, and expected to continue through the summer of 2025. This multi-phase project kicks off with a crucial water main replacement. After that, weโll enhance the curbs, sidewalks, and driveways with significant concrete work. Early in 2025, weโll replace gas services from the curb valves to the meters. Donโt worry, Millville Avenue will remain open throughout the project. Since itโs a State Route, the final resurfacing in 2025 will be partially funded by ODOT.
### 2023 / 2024 Concrete Repair and Resurfacing Project
In addition to Millville Avenue, our 2023 / 2024 Concrete Repair and Resurfacing Project will tackle several key areas on the west side, including:
- NW Washington Boulevard
- Front Street
- New London Road
- Ridgefield Road
- Meadowood Way
- Cardome Drive
- Bender Avenue
- Kahn Avenue
Eaton Avenue will also get a fresh layer of asphalt, contributing to a comprehensive improvement across the west side of Hamilton.
### Street Levy Projects
Thanks to the Hamilton Streets Levy, approved by voters in spring 2020, we have $31 million over ten years to enhance streets across all 17 neighborhoods in Hamilton. This levy ensures funds are distributed fairly and incorporates resident input to prioritize which streets get attention. Curious about the streets weโve already completed? Check out our 2024 Street Paving Annual Report.
### 2024 Projects
This yearโs levy-funded projects include:
- NW Washington Boulevard
- Glenway Drive
- Flagler Court
- West Fairway Drive
- Fairway Court
- Kensington Drive
- Ridgefield Road
- Meadowood Way
- Cardome Drive
- Tylersville Road โ Phase 1 and 2
- Bender Avenue
- Kahn Avenue
### Other 2024 Projects
Additional resurfacing projects include:
- Eaton Avenue
- New London Road (widening by ODOT funding)
- Pyramid Hill Boulevard (ODOT project)
- Bilstein Bridge Deck Replacement (ODOT grant; 9-month closure)
### 2025 Projects
Looking ahead to 2025, weโll be resurfacing:
- Williams Avenue
- Fairview Avenue
- Freeman Avenue
- Walnut Street
- Hanover Street
- Hancock Avenue
- Van Buren Drive
- Van Buren Court
- Rutledge Court
- Holmes Court
- Lincoln Avenue
- S 11th Street
- S 12th Street
- S 13th Street
- S 14th Street
- Joe Nuxhall Boulevard
- Greenwood Avenue
- Millville Avenue
- Donna Avenue
- Taft Place
East and Maple Avenues will be addressed in the future due to the need for major underground infrastructure improvements.
### New Milling Machine Making Moves
Exciting news! Our Public Works Department has a brand new milling and paving machine, which will help us make even more progress in resurfacing neighborhood streets. The first areas to benefit include:
- Weinmann Drive
- Peregrine Way
- Sandalwood Terrace
- Barbary Drive
- Cornell Avenue
- Sunset Court
- Hilda Avenue
- Cleveland Avenue (two sections between Gray and Webster avenues)
These streets were chosen based on various criteria, including the paving condition index, underground utilities status, resident requests, ADA ramp costs, and traffic volume. This targeted approach ensures we address the most critical areas first, leading to better road conditions and improved accessibility for all.
### Staying Informed and Involved
We encourage residents to stay informed and share their input. Visit our website (www.hamilton-oh.gov/streetslevy) for information on current and upcoming street closures, projects, and paving schedules. Download MyHamilton (311) to report non-emergency issues directly to city personnel. Stay updated by signing up for our Cerkl digital newsletter, and let us know which streets youโd like to see paved via our online Streets Levy survey. Your voice is crucial in shaping our cityโs infrastructure.
As we embark on this busy summer for better streets, we appreciate your patience. Please be kind to our contractors. Orange cones, flashing lights, and warning signs indicate a work zone ahead. These projects are essential for Hamiltonโs growth and development, ensuring a safer, more efficient, and more beautiful city for all.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement!
