Hamilton’s 2024 Memorial Day Parade Will Honor Veterans Of The Vietnam War

With profound reverence, the community of Hamilton eagerly anticipates the solemn address to be delivered this Memorial Day by the esteemed retired Brigadier Gen. Lawrence Gillespie. As the nation prepares to mark fifty years since the conclusion of the Vietnam War, General Gillespie's words will echo with the weight of remembrance and gratitude, particularly as he reflects on the valorous sacrifice of a dear friend who perished as a hero in that conflict.

The memory of Army SSG Fred Brown, whose banner adorns the High-Main Bridge alongside other cherished Hamilton heroes, will be tenderly enshrined within General Gillespie's oration. Brown's selfless act of leaping upon a grenade to shield his comrades from peril epitomizes the noblest essence of bravery. Though he was posthumously awarded the U.S. Army’s Distinguished Service Cross for his extraordinary valor, General Gillespie, imbued with unwavering devotion, continues to champion Brown's cause for the Medal of Honor, recognizing the full measure of his gallantry.

As we gather to honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation, we solemnly acknowledge the more than 53,200 Americans, including 3,093 Ohioans and numerous beloved sons and daughters of Hamilton, who laid down their lives during the crucible of the Vietnam War. Their names are etched in the annals of history, their valor an enduring testament to the indomitable spirit of sacrifice that defines our nation's heroes.

In a world often fraught with division and discord, General Gillespie's poignant address serves as a poignant reminder of the profound significance of unity and reconciliation. Vietnam veterans, who once returned home to a nation divided by politics and controversy, now stand as beacons of resilience and fortitude. Their sacrifice, too long overlooked, finds poignant recognition in this year's Memorial Day parade theme, "Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans."

As the strains of patriotism resound through the streets of Hamilton, we pay homage to the legacy of service embodied by our veterans. Led by U.S. Army Vietnam veteran Charles Stidham, this year's parade serves as a moving tribute to all those who have answered the call of duty, their valor woven into the fabric of our nation's history.

In the quiet moments preceding the march toward Greenwood Cemetery, where the brave souls of generations past lie in eternal rest, we pause to honor their memory with a solemn laying of the wreath at the Butler County Soldiers, Sailors and Pioneer’s Monument. . Led by the Hamilton High School Junior Navy ROTC students, this poignant ceremony, hosted by the American Legion Post 138, stands as a poignant testament to the enduring bond between past and present, a tribute rendered with reverence by members of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the Hamilton Fire and Police, AMVETS Post 1983, and DAV Chapter 15.

As we gather to pay homage to those who have gone before us, let us do so with hearts filled with gratitude and reverence. For it is through their sacrifice that we find inspiration, their legacy an eternal beacon guiding us toward a future shaped by the enduring principles of honor, duty, and service to others.

A biomanufacturer headquartered in San Diego is poised to significantly bolster the local job market in West Chester Township, Ohio. Thanks to a tax incentive from the state, the company, known as Resilience, is set to create 274 new full-time positions. This commitment comes as part of their substantial investment of at least $225 million into a former pharmaceutical plant in the area.

Since acquiring the former AstraZeneca facility on Trade Port Drive in 2023, Resilience has been dedicated to revitalizing the site. Reports suggest their investment could surpass $229 million, demonstrating their commitment to the region's economic growth. The redevelopment project aims to enhance the plant's drug product capacity, with plans to double its manufacturing footprint by expanding to six device assembly and packaging suites by 2025. This expansion will not only create new jobs but also strengthen the site's ability to meet the increasing demands of the biomanufacturing industry.

J.P. Nauseef, President and CEO of JobsOhio, lauded Resilience's expansion, highlighting its positive impact on the local economy. He emphasized that this development will not only create employment opportunities but also fortify Ohio's position in the life sciences sector. Additionally, Larry D. Burks, Township Administrator of West Chester Township, echoed these sentiments, recognizing the significant investment by Resilience as a catalyst for continued growth in advanced manufacturing and medical research.

Resilience's CEO, Rahul Singhvi, emphasized the company's dedication to providing robust outsourcing options for their partners. He noted that this expansion aligns with Resilience's mission to address historic manufacturing challenges in the industry, further solidifying their position as a leader in biomanufacturing.

The tax incentive provided by Ohio's Tax Incentive Authority underscores the state's commitment to fostering economic development. With the approval of a 1.9%, 10-year Job Creation Tax Credit, the project is expected to generate hundreds of new jobs and retain existing ones. The direct hires will span various roles, including manufacturing, engineering, quality control, information technology, and management, injecting millions of dollars into the local economy annually.

The collaboration between Resilience, government authorities, and economic development organizations like REDI Cincinnati highlights the synergistic efforts driving growth in the region. Kimm Lauterbach, President and CEO of REDI Cincinnati, emphasized the significance of these new jobs in supporting the region's thriving life sciences industry and cementing Cincinnati's reputation as a hub for health innovation.

In sum, Resilience's expansion not only signifies a boon for the local job market but also reinforces Ohio's position as a leader in biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical innovation. Through strategic investments and collaborative partnerships, the region is poised for continued economic growth and advancement in the life sciences sector.
